MARKET PULSE Saturday's lesson was that hot data moved prices for minutes, and rules set where they ended. This week the Fed is silent, and the calendar is thin on data. So the contracts that matter reprice on mechanics. An oil futures contract expires Monday. Treasury sells 20-year bonds Wednesday. A Yemen window closes that afternoon. Brazil votes Sunday. Each one has a popular reading. Several have a settlement rule that says something narrower. Fewer headlines. More fine print. Here are the six to watch.
PREMIER FEATURE Carnegie didn't invent steel. He used new technology to produce it cheaper and faster than anyone on Earth. Rockefeller didn't discover oil. He used industrial machinery to refine it more efficiently. Vanderbilt didn't build the railroad. He understood that whoever controlled the infrastructure controlled the economy. Their combined fortunes were between $700 billion and $1 trillion. Best-selling financial author Alexander Green has identified three companies positioned to be the Titans of the AI age. QUESTION 1 Did Oil Hit $100, or Only One Barrel of It?CONTRACT: Polymarket's October WTI book, $100 rung. CURRENT PROBABILITY: Near 88.5% Friday afternoon. The $105 rung sat near 47.5%. NEXT CATALYST: November WTI futures expire Monday, Oct. 19. The EIA weekly inventory report follows Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. EXACT RESOLUTION CONDITION: The rung pays if any one-minute Pyth candle for the Active Month of ICE WTI futures reaches $100 in October. The Active Month rolls to the next contract at the open of the third-to-last session. December became the Active Month for Thursday's session. WHAT WOULD LIKELY REPRICE IT: November WTI traded above $101 on Friday afternoon. December, the contract the rung reads, peaked at $99.34. Less than a dollar more on December would pay it. Last week's 8.6 million-barrel stock draw set the bar for Wednesday's report. FINANCIAL-MARKET IMPLICATION: "Oil above $100" describes an expiring month. The contract reads the next one. A spread between them shows near-term barrels are tighter than later ones, which is the diesel story in crude form. Truckers are already passing it on. [About $285 million of J.B. Hunt (JBHT)'s revenue gain came from fuel surcharges](https://www.financialmarkets.com/article/jb-hunt-added-624-million-of-quarterly-revenue-much-of-it-fuel-surcharges-operat).
QUESTION 2 Can Data Alone Move a Silent Fed?CONTRACT: Kalshi's October rate-hike contract, alongside its December counterpart. CURRENT PROBABILITY: October near 13 cents. December near 77 cents. NEXT CATALYST: Jobless claims at 8:30 a.m. Thursday. S&P Global's flash October PMIs at 9:45 a.m. Friday. The Fed's quiet period runs through the day after the Oct. 28 decision. EXACT RESOLUTION CONDITION: October pays only on a quarter-point hike at the Oct. 28 decision. December pays only on a quarter-point hike at the December meeting. WHAT WOULD LIKELY REPRICE IT: The October contract fell by about half after Chair Kevin Warsh declined to signal the meeting. No official can correct that read now. A sharp move in claims or hot price gauges in the PMIs would be the main fresh inputs. FINANCIAL-MARKET IMPLICATION: The two prices are not cumulative. A popular reading adds them into "a hike by December." But an October hike could leave December on hold and pay neither December holder. The split shows traders betting on when the hike comes, not on whether.
FROM OUR PARTNERS Elon's audacious plan to double U.S. energy, without building a single new power plant… People think he's crazy. But Adam O'Dell says he's already deployed 4,000 units of his solution across 14 states — and used them to power the largest supercomputer on the planet. With Microsoft, Amazon, Google and Facebook set to spend $680 billion this year on AI data centers that can't get enough power to run, Elon's solution is about to be in extraordinary demand. QUESTION 3 Can a 20-Year Sale Bring Back 5.4%?CONTRACT: Polymarket's 10-year yield ladder, 5.4% rung. CURRENT PROBABILITY: Near 36%, down from about 62% a week earlier. The 5.5% rung sat near 27%. NEXT CATALYST: Treasury sells 20-year bonds Wednesday, with results at 1 p.m. Eastern. A five-year TIPS sale follows Thursday. EXACT RESOLUTION CONDITION: The rung pays if Treasury's daily par yield table shows the 10-year at or above 5.40% on any day before 2027. Intraday trades do not count. WHAT WOULD LIKELY REPRICE IT: The table closed Thursday at 5.10%. Wednesday's intraday touch near 5.33% after the CPI report paid nothing. A weak 20-year sale, with dealers left holding more bonds, would put upward pressure on the whole long end. FINANCIAL-MARKET IMPLICATION: The rung is a bet that bond buyers stop absorbing supply at these yields. Retail sales outside autos and gasoline rose only 0.2%, one reading that fits the bond rally. A strong auction would back that reading, and a weak one would test it. Higher closes also hit bank bond books. [PNC (PNC)'s unrealized losses grew by $2.4 billion last quarter](https://www.financialmarkets.com/article/us-bancorp-and-bny-rose-on-their-results-pncs-unrealized-losses-grew-by-24-billi).
QUESTION 4 What Counts as the U.S. Striking Yemen?CONTRACT: Polymarket's contract that pays if the U.S. does not strike Yemen. CURRENT PROBABILITY: The Oct. 21 line near 97 cents. Oct. 31 near 91.5 cents. Nov. 30 near 79.5 cents. NEXT CATALYST: The Oct. 21 line expires at 11:59 p.m. Yemen time Wednesday, 4:59 p.m. Eastern. EXACT RESOLUTION CONDITION: Only a U.S. air strike or surface-to-surface missile strike that hits Yemen's land or internal waters counts. Intercepted munitions do not count. Naval gunfire does not count. In a coalition operation, it counts only if U.S. forces conducted the strike. WHAT WOULD LIKELY REPRICE IT: Houthi attacks have reached an Aramco office in Dhahran, and President Trump wrote that he will "be there after the Elections." The Nov. 30 line sits past Election Day and prices about a one-in-five chance of a strike. FINANCIAL-MARKET IMPLICATION: U.S. ships shooting down Houthi missiles over the Red Sea would not settle this contract. Neither would American support for Saudi raids. The gap between the October and November lines is where the post-election risk to Saudi supply sits.

QUESTION 5 Is Easing the Same as Ending?CONTRACT: Polymarket's contract on a U.S. announcement ending the Iran blockade. CURRENT PROBABILITY: Oct. 31 near 4.5%. Nov. 30 near 19.5%. Dec. 31 near 34%. NEXT CATALYST: No date is set. Washington is weighing easing sanctions on some shadow-fleet tankers to carry "legal oil" out of the Gulf, a U.S. official told Reuters. EXACT RESOLUTION CONDITION: It takes an official, present and unambiguous U.S. announcement ending or suspending the naval blockade. An exemption for a specific vessel, cargo or port does not qualify. Neither does a conditional or prospective statement. WHAT WOULD LIKELY REPRICE IT: A tanker waiver would read as easing in headlines and pay nothing here. A formal Iranian answer to the latest U.S. proposal, which Tehran called "insufficient," would matter more. FINANCIAL-MARKET IMPLICATION: Reported ship attacks near Hormuz reached 12 in one week, and Brent closed between about $104 and $107 all week. A partial waiver could add barrels without ending the blockade. Oil could react to it while this contract stays put. Producer shares rose anyway, as ExxonMobil (XOM), Chevron (CVX) and ConocoPhillips (COP) touched all-time highs on Wednesday.
QUESTION 6 Does Brazil Vote Like Its Price or Its Polls?CONTRACT: Polymarket's contract on a Flávio Bolsonaro win. CURRENT PROBABILITY: Near 77 cents, down from about 86 a week earlier. NEXT CATALYST: The runoff is Sunday, Oct. 25. Final polls before the vote are the remaining inputs. EXACT RESOLUTION CONDITION: The contract pays on the winner, based on a consensus of credible reporting. If results are ambiguous, the official Superior Electoral Court count decides. WHAT WOULD LIKELY REPRICE IT: Datafolha showed Flávio ahead 51-49 in valid votes, inside its two-point margin of error. A final poll showing Lula ahead would test a price that still implies about 3-to-1 odds. FINANCIAL-MARKET IMPLICATION: A 77-cent price is not a forecast of a wide win. Polymarket's margin book puts about 59% on a race decided by under four points, either way. Brazilian markets open Monday, Oct. 26, with the answer.

CLOSING LENS Last week, data moved prices and rules set the payout. This week brings less data and more rules. An oil contract rolls. An auction tests the long end. A Yemen window shuts, and a blockade waiver could read as an ending without counting as one. The Fed is silent. The fine print is not. Watch the 20-year sale at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Capital moves early. Coverage catches up. The gap between the two is worth watching.
